4. permissions justification
When you install Sharenest, your browser prompts for several technical permissions. We request only what is strictly required to deliver the extension’s advertised capabilities:
- identity: Required to authenticate your Google Account through official OAuth 2.0 so that file operations can run without sharing credentials.
- storage: Required to save your folder routing rules, theme preferences, and watched file lists locally in chrome.storage.local.
- alarms: Required to run scheduled background checks for incoming shared files, watched file deletion alerts, and scheduled snapshot backups.
- notifications: Required to show instant desktop notifications if an external owner trashes a shared file that you are watching.
- tabs: Required to open Google Drive folder links in a new browser tab when you click folder nodes in the visual tree canvas.
- scripting: Required to inject the side drawer dock into Google Drive tabs when you click the toolbar button.
- activeTab: Required to interact with the current tab when you launch the side drawer.
- https://www.googleapis.com/*: Required to communicate directly with Google Drive REST API endpoints to read metadata, create folders, and move file shortcuts.
5. data retention and deletion
All data used by Sharenest exists solely on your local device. If you wish to delete all stored data, you can simply:
- Right click the Sharenest extension icon in your browser toolbar.
- Select “Remove from Chrome…”.
- All local settings, tokens, and cached metadata are immediately deleted from your machine.
You may also revoke Google Drive OAuth permissions at any time by visiting your Google Account Security Settings.
6. third party services
Sharenest does not include third party advertising networks, external telemetry scripts, or behavior trackers. The website at sharenest.utilsfirst.com is hosted as a static site and does not use tracking cookies.
